Save Hoosier Healthcare Rally

On July 1st, Indiana will begin a dangerous new experiment with Medicaid/HIP: unnecessary and burdensome new reporting requirements. Starting in 2020, tens of thousands of Hoosiers will lose their healthcare because of these new changes.

And while we get sicker, someone’s getting richer. These new requirements are being run by companies that profit by making the system harder for Hoosiers. Insurance companies, the pharmaceutical industry, and other mega-corporations all make money by withholding care from us.

Join us on July 1st to demand that the Governor stop this cruel program before Hoosiers get hurt. We deserve a healthcare system that puts people before profit. The time is now: show up and demand that Indiana do better.

Register here.

Save Hoosier Healthcare Campaign Launch

Every Hoosier has struggled to navigate our healthcare system to get the care we need. Too many of us have to choose between paying for prescriptions or medical bills or our utilities. Doctors, patients, and caregivers all have to deal with a confusing and unforgiving bureaucracy in order to provide and receive care. And it’s about to get worse for all of us: unnecessary and burdensome new reporting requirements will kick thousands of Hoosiers off their healthcare next year if we don’t do something about it.

Hoosiers' healthcare is being run for profit, not for the people. Insurance companies, the pharmaceutical industry, and other mega-corporations profit by withholding care from us. They’re getting richer, while we get sicker.

It doesn’t have to be this way. It’s time to take a stand and take back our power. Join Hoosier Action, Medicare for All Indiana (formerly HCHP), and Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard on May 29th at the Monroe County Public Library at 6:30 pm to launch our campaign to Save Hoosier Healthcare!

Legislative Advocacy & Dinner w/Mother Hubbard's Cupboard

We’re partnering with Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard to text our fellow Hoosiers and contact our legislators about two important bills in the statehouse right now!

We’ll be texting about Indiana House Bill 1344 which protects pregnant workers from discrimination and having to work in hazardous environments that put their pregnancy and lives at risk and Indiana Senate Bill 104 which puts a 36% APR cap on small loans. Right now, predatory lenders can charge as much as 391% interest on loans, trapping Hoosiers in cycles of debt!

Join us for a delicious dinner, community, and to help protect pregnant workers and fight back against loan shark lenders! No experience necessary, dinner will be vegetarian-friendly!

Project Midterm Orientation

Sick of politicians who aren't accountable to the people they represent? Tired of political parties that close up shop after Election Day and don't reach out again until it comes time for re-election? Done feeling isolated and powerless?

Project Midterm is a grassroots strategy to put the values and issues that matter to ordinary Hoosiers at the center of the 2018 election. It is a project of Hoosier Action, a non-partisan community organization that is accountable to our members right here in Southern Indiana, not a political party accountable to special interests in Washington, DC. We believe all Hoosiers deserve freedom, dignity, and democracy — and we take action to see that we get it.

Ready to revitalize our democracy? We are door-knocking, phone-banking, texting, tabling at farmers markets and county fairs, hosting house meetings, organizing town halls, hosting candidate forums, mobilizing protest actions, and more. Sign up to get trained and join a Project Midterm team!

Be a Healthcare Hero: A Community Call to Action with Ady Barkan

Be a Healthcare Hero: A Community Call to Action with Ady Barkan

Join us, Hoosier Action, and special guest healthcare hero Ady Barkan, on July 23rd at 5:30 pm on the Bloomington City Hall steps for the unveiling of our Care Agenda, which includes:

1. Protecting and expanding healthcare for all Hoosiers
Passing the Comprehensive Addiction Resources Emergency (CARE) Act

2. Eliminating harmful state policies and unnecessary red tape which are used to deny Hoosiers the healthcare we deserve

3. Calling for at least 2% of every Indiana city and county budget to be dedicated to compassionate drug and mental health treatment

Every Hoosier knows someone who has faced hard times because of healthcare problems. Or maybe you are that person. Too many Hoosiers either can’t get the care they need or have to choose between paying rent and utilities or paying medical bills and filling prescriptions. Doctors and other service providers in Indiana have to struggle with an underfunded and over-complicated bureaucracy that often keeps them from providing the quality of healthcare they want to provide for their patients. Hoosiers struggling with mental health issues or addiction often have no place to turn and, even if they can access services, there isn’t enough money to pay for them. Meanwhile, pharmaceutical and insurance company profits explode. These same companies then line the pockets of the very politicians who are supposed to be working for us. Millionaires get richer, and the rest of us get sicker.
It does not have to be like this. Together we can change the state of Hoosier healthcare.
