Monroe County Door to Door Canvassers

We are seeking Door to Door Canvassers to become part of our team! Hoosier Action is a homegrown community organization dedicated to building the power of Indiana’s working families. We are running a 8-week door to door canvass based in Monroe County to survey working Hoosiers about their lives.

Our Canvassers will hold meaningful conversations with everyday Hoosiers about their lives, families, communities, and concerns at the doors. Canvassers will receive canvassing training, and learn an essential organizing skill. Successful applicants should demonstrate excellent communication skills, a commitment to timeliness, working well with others, willingness to engage with strangers, and the drive to succeed.

Hours:

  • Monday 3 pm -8 pm

  • Tuesday 3 pm -8 pm

  • Thursday 3 pm -8 pm 

  • Saturday 10 am-3 pm 

  • Sunday 1 pm-6 pm 

Pay: $25/hour

Responsibilities:

  • Complete 5 door knocking shifts per week that include:

    • Engaging Hoosiers on the doors 

    • Meeting survey goals 

    • Relating back to the team 

    • Reporting to manager stories, problems, issues and learnings 

  • Reach out to people by knocking on their doors to learn what they care about, and what’s going on in their lives right now

  • Collecting contact information for follow-up 

  • Meeting shift goals and working with your manager and team to meet them

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to people and relationships

  • Self-motivated and hard-working

  • Willingness to talk to strangers

  • Ability to build rapport with people at the doors, and cultural competence to relate to people with different backgrounds and life experiences 

  • Positive and professional demeanor

  • Have great communication skills, a strong work ethic, and are accountable.

  • Detail oriented: we need to ensure all information is entered and tracked accurately

  • Open to new challenges and are interested in building their campaign skills.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • A commitment to timeliness

Requirements:

  • Capable of walking 4 hours a day. Physical requirements: this will be door to door canvassing, meaning you will be walking your turf during your shift

  • Reliable transportation
