A valid photo ID is required to vote in person in Indiana. Your photo ID must display your name, an expiration date (current or have expired sometime after the date of the last General Election), and be issued by the State of Indiana or the US government. Acceptable forms include:

• Indiana driver's license or Indiana-issued photo ID card

• US Military ID

• **NOTE: State-issued student IDs: On April 14th, a federal judge ruled that students attending public universities in Indiana can use their student identification cards during the state’s primary election. However, on April 20th, that ruling was overruled by an appeals court decision. As we await a final ruling by the Appeals court, students cannot use their student IDs to vote.

If it is your first time voting in Indiana you must submit an Indiana driver’s license number or the last four digits of their SSN with their application, and the county voter registration office or election official must be able to match the applicant with an existing Indiana identification record bearing the same name, date of birth, and identification number set forth in the voter registration application.

We also recommend you come prepared with an additional document to verify your address. Acceptable forms of evidence to verify your address include:

• Valid Indiana Driver’s License, Indiana State ID Card, or US Passport if your ID address matches your registration.

Yes, you can vote! Voting rights are restored upon release from jail or prison. People who have been previously incarcerated should check their registration, and re-register to vote if it has been canceled. Individuals on parole, probation, home detention, or people who are in jail awaiting trial can vote. Yes, children under 18 are allowed to accompany their parents or guardians to the polls.

Yes! In 2015 a Federal Court judge halted implementation of a law banning “ballot selfies.” It is legal to take a photo of your ballot before or after you fill it out.

Stay in line! Polls are open 6 am-6 pm local time on election day. In Indiana all voters in line prior to 6 pm are eligible to vote.

A 17 year old who will be 18 by the November election are eligible to register and vote in the Primary and General Elections.
